Detailed Itinerary
Day 1; Pick up and transfer to Bwindi forest.
On day 1 of the 9 Days Uganda Rwanda and Congo Tour, you will meet our driver guide, upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport Then head to Bwindi National Park with en-route lunch and continue to drive to connect to the border to enter Uganda in Kanungu. Upon arrival, you will connect to your lodge where you will spend an evening at leisure at your lodge. Dinner and overnight at Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge – Mid-range, Rushaga Gorilla Haven – Budget.
Day 2; Bwindi Gorilla Trekking
On day 1 of the 9 Days Uganda Rwanda and Congo Tour, breakfast will be served early, carry your packed lunch boxes and be transferred to the park headquarters for a briefing about Gorilla rules. Then, you will be allocated to a gorilla family to trek. You will then head into the steep slopes of Bwindi impenetrable national park and trek until you find these endangered mountain gorillas. The trek can last between 30 minutes to 6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas.
After finding the gorillas, you will be permitted an hour to view, photograph, and record small videos as you please and later return to the assembly point for your certificate. Your guide will be waiting to drive you back to the lodge where you will spend the evening resting as you memorize your long-way activity. Dinner and overnight at the lodge as above.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park (Rwanda)
On day 3 of the 9 Days Uganda Rwanda and Congo Tour, after morning breakfast, meet the driver/guide and then transfer to the Cyanika border cross back to Rwanda en –route, and proceed to visit the beautiful twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Later in the evening, connect to check in at your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at Hotel Muhabura –Budget / Le Bambou Lodge – Midrange.
Day 4; Golden Monkey Trekking and Ibyi’wacu Village Tour
On day 4 of the 9 Days Uganda Rwanda and Congo Tour, Enjoy breakfast and report back to the park headquarters where you will get a ranger guide and start your golden monkey trek in Volcanoes National Park. It’s an amazing experience that can last an hour or three hours. After spending time with the golden monkeys, you will go and have lunch then connect to enjoy the Ibyi’wachu cultural tour – a traditional experience. Dinner and overnight stay at lodge as above
Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
On day 5 of the 9 Days Uganda Rwanda and Congo Tour, after having your tasty breakfast, you will head on a 4-5 hours scenic drive to Nyungwe National park-one of the oldest rainforests in Africa and home to over 13 species of primate. Dinner and overstay at Gisakura Visitor Centre (Budget)/ Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel (Midrange)
Day 6; Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk
Wake up have breakfast and go for a briefing before entering the forest trailhead to search for the chimpanzees in the Nyungwe forest. The chimpanzee trekking experience takes 30 minutes to 4 hours. After, return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk adventure on a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to enjoy the beauty of the rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. Before nightfall, you will return to the hotel for dinner as above
Day 7: Transfer to Bukavu via Cyangugu
You will have a delicious breakfast at your lodge, meet up with your driver guide, and drive to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo via the Cyangugu border. Once you have cleared with the immigration office at the border, you will connect with your Congo driver guide and drive you to your booked hotel for dinner and an overnight stay at Panorama Hotel
Day 8: Eastern Lowland Gorilla Trekking and Visit Lwiro Sanctuary
Wake up early in the morning and have breakfast before driving to the park headquarters where you will be briefed before your gorilla trekking do’s and don’ts. You will be joined by other trekkers and head into the forest in search of eastern lowland gorillas. Trekking can take between 2-4 hours depending on their movements. Once you allocate a gorilla group, you will be given an hour to spend with the gorillas before heading back to your hotel for lunch.
After lunch, you will visit Lwiro Sanctuary where orphaned and rescued chimps are being cared for. You will take a tour around and get to learn more about the conservation work taking place there. Back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay the same as the previous night.
Day 9: Cross Back to Cyangugu and Transfer Back to Kigali
Enjoy breakfast at leisure and then drive back to Kigali. You will go on a city tour where you will visit the Kimironko market and the Kigali genocide memorial site. After having your lunch, you will be dropped at the hotel as advised or you will be dropped at Kigali International Airport for your scheduled flight back home.
