Gorilla trekking and habituation activities are mostly carried out in majorly two major destinations which are Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. In total, there are 18 gorilla groups or families and you can only track only one group a day.

Rushegura family

Rushegura family is famously known for crossing from Uganda to democratic republic of Uganda and then crossing back in Uganda and this makes the family interesting to marvel at from both countries.

Oruzogo family

Oruzogo family is known to be the largest gorilla family with 25, members and the second family found in in the Ruhija area of the national park making it an interesting family to visit and spend a day with.

Bitukura family

The family is composed of 14 individuals from its original 24 Bitukura family is led by Ndahura who took over from the now retired Karamuzi this is also one other interesting gorilla family to spend with as you get to know more about its history.

Mubare family

Mubare family is known to be the oldest gorilla family habituated in Bwindi impenetrable national habituated in the Mubare hills in Buhoma sector made up of a family of 8 members and 1 silverback.

Nyakagezi family

The only habituated family in Mgahinga National Park first lead by Bugingo who passed away because of old age and Mark the eldest son took over with two other Silverbacks; Mathew and Mafia

Habinyanja family

This was the very first family to be habituated in Uganda and for those who are interested to spend a day with this family get to move to Buhoma sector in Bwindi impenetrable forest national park and get to marvel at the family.

Nshongi family

Nshongi Gorilla Group is also among the 10 habituated gorilla families inhabited in Bwindi impenetrable forestand for those who would love to spend a day spent with then can find the family in Rushaga sector of Bwindi.

Nkuringo family

Nkuringo Gorilla Group is found in the Nkuringo region of Bwindi impenetrable forests in the southwest part of Uganda and while heading to sight them visitors can get to explore numerous attractions along the trails to the sector.

Other families found in Uganda include; the Mishaya family, Kahungye family, Bweza Family, Busingye Family, and Kyaguriro Family which are so interesting to marvel at while in the country.
