Quad biking is super-duper exciting, adrenaline-packed adventure or fun activity that involves riding a quad bike, sometimes called an all-terrain vehicle (ATV), through various rough terrains and trails. The Quad biking experience is usually done on Uganda safari and in forest settings, hills, mountains and a few rocky environments; depending on the place you are having it at. The experiences are divided into 3 types based on the length and level of difficulty you will face while on the riding experience. The types are

- Recreational and fun; the softest of all and the one done by most tourists. You ride through really easy trails with a few bumps for fun and adventure. Done by all people from beginners to pros.
- Sport Quad Biking: the toughest of them all, because it’s a competition of who bikes or rides best in the roughest of conditions. Done by only pros and seasoned bikers. These ride in typical racing events with stunt shows, obstacle courses and several other challenges.
- Utility: not hard not easy, its literally using a bike to work like farm, create a passage, navigate the wild etc, because of its purpose and demands its quite hard but also its straightforward making it really easy.
All the different types have specific quad bikes attached to them, so you wont have much to figure out on the bike.
Because this is a safari blog, in this article we shall focus only on the recreational and fun quad biking, which is usually referred to as mountain biking or mountain quad biking. As mentioned about, it’s usually done in forested mountains, hills and a few rocky areas. And this biking activity is usually done as part of your safari activities on your safari.
For this experience you will have a safety briefing before you hop of the bikes for the rides, to understand the basics of quad biking, the riding guidelines, and of course emergency procedures in case of anything.
While you are at the brief the staff will do a general inspection of the bike or bikes to make sure, they are in good conditions for the ride ahead. They will check things like the speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge among other things.

After the briefing you will have to put on protective gear usually provided to you by the biking experience facilitators or operators; the gear includes – quad biking suit, a helmet, gloves, closed strong shoes etc.
Then you will walk to the quad bike and swing or stretch your leg over the seat to mount the quad bike; adjust yourself to be comfortable enough to ride; have your feet readied on the footrests and your hands on the wheel controllers.
Now that you are settled on the bike, you are ready to start your biking experience; so now turn the key to start the engine, pull the clutch lever and shift into first gear then start to slowly accelerate by releasing the clutch lever and giving the quad bike some gas. Start now leaning your body in the way your are going as you steer the bike some more. Move on a considerate speed so that when you meet an obstacle you are able to brake; you squeeze the brake lever to brake. Obstacles you will meet include logs, rocks, hilly ascents, pot holes and many more. And as you navigate them take advantage of your body weight to help the quad bike to maneuver the obstacles.
At the end of your biking experience, you will head back to the starting point, where you will dismount the quad bike and remove the biking gear. Then be on your way for other activities.
The staff will handle the quad bike to inspect it, for anything that has been broken. Quad biking is done all year round and you can easily book one with your tour operator.
