Road Map to the Kampala Metropolitan : Well! Well! The Kampala Metropolitan is quite a big area, stretching from Kampala city the capital of Uganda to districts like Lugazi, Mukono, Wakiso, Mpigi and the likes. So, road map to all those may hard to draw up, however, we can do you one better, in this article we can give you a road map to Kampala city and Mukono city. Why because they are the most visited and from the list mentioned, they are the ones with some attractive features to see.

Kampala is the capital city of Uganda its vibrant and bustling with a rich history, cultural attractions, and exciting activities, Mukono on the other hand is a beautiful, charming town about 30 kilometers east of Kampala city with exciting features and things to see on your tour to it.
Well, a road map to both these cities means you are planning to visit either of them or both of them to experience their richness. Before you embark on your journey and tour, you need to plan your itinerary (that we shall highlight below), plan transport and accommodation among other things.
You need to plan transport around Kampala and then transport to Mukono. There’s public transport readily available if you want to experience that or you can organize for private transport with your tour operator. For accommodation your tour operator will surely be of great help to get you the accommodation you want in both Mukuno and Kampala. The tour operator will also make sure all the other things, permits and all are secured before you start your tour.
Usually, the tour operators will advise you to start the tour in Kampala and then move to Mukono; because its more logically and easier to execute, but you can start and end anyway you want, you will still enjoy yourself. That said the road map we are detailing below is from Kampala to Mukono.
On day one you will set out to visit the 7 hills of Kampala depending on where you are staying that’s the hill you will visit then others. The Hills are Mengo, Rubaga, Namirembe, Nakasero, Makarere, Kololo and Old Kampala. Other added Hills are Kawempe, Mulago and Nakawa.
After visiting hills, you will now visit the religious, historical and cultural places in Kampala from Uganda Martyrs, Kabaka’s Palace, Kabaka’s lake, Kasubi Tombs, National Museum, Nommo Gallery, Namirembe Cathedral, Gaddafi Mosque and many more places. This can be done on day 2 and 3 or 4.
You can also plan to visit the Independence momenutem, parliament, Uganda’s national broadcasting house, National theatre, African markets, St Balikuddembe market, Nakasero Market, Garden City Shopping Mall, Acacia Mall, different communities in the urban centers and many other places your tour operator suggests. However, the number of places you visit will depend on your preferences and the time you have in Kampala.
While touring Kampala you can walk, use a private vehicle, or use public means that is the taxis and boda Bodas; your tour operator will advice on what’s best for you and the place you are visiting. You should note though that Kampala is an urban center with all kinds of people so as you tour be mindful of your belongings and avoid traveling alone at night.
Talking about Night, Kampala has a vibrant Night life so you can also take part in that if you are interested, your tour operator will advise.
From Kampala you will proceed to Mukono, Mukono on a no traffic day which is near to unheard of is about a 2 hours’ drive maximum from Kampala. However, that Jinja road will always have heavy traffic so plan for about 3 to 4 hours before you get to Mukono.

Anyway in Mukono you visit places like the Sezibwa falls, Mabira forest reserve and some forests – they are small and not quite known but are quite unique to visit, Mukono Town Center, Mukono local markets and communities, Mukono Cathedral, Mukono University – Uganda Martyrs University, Lake Victoria Shore, Namawojjolo Wetland and a number of places as advised by your tour operator.
Mukono is not as populated as Kampala, so you wouldn’t have a lot of people around you at a time, but none the less be mindful of your belongings as you move also have company as you move at night. Night life in Mukono is not as vibrant as it is in Kampala, but it’s exciting and beautiful.
