Things to do in Buhoma Sector in Bwindi: Buhoma sector is located in the Northern region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which is found in the Kanungu district and, is considered the best destination for gorilla trekking activities that tourists who are always on a safari in Uganda should visit. Bwindi impenetrable national park has around 4 four sectors that tourists who are interested in trekking gorilla species can always go to however, Buhoma sector is considered the best and easiest sector to go trekking because it is famously known as the first place to host the first gorilla family to be habituated and trekked in Bwindi Impenetrable national park and that gorilla group is known as Mubare gorilla family.

Buhoma sector has around two gorilla families that are habituated in this sector and are able to attract many tourists who travel from different parts of the world to go trekking these gorilla families include; the Rushegura gorilla family which is considered to be the largest gorilla group in Buhoma sector and it is made up of 15 gorilla individuals that involves 4 adult females, 4 infants who are under the leadership of a dominant silverback named Alpha Kabukojo, 3 juveniles and 4 black back among others. Trekking gorillas in this group takes about approximately about 3 to 5 hours. More so, this Rushegura gorilla family was habituated in 2000, it was first trekked in 2002 and later it split from the Habinyanja gorilla family. More so, the Buhoma sector also has the Mubare gorilla family which is known to be the first habituated gorilla group within this sector and it is also considered to be the oldest gorilla group within this sector because it habituated within 1991 and it managed to welcome its first trekking group in the year of 1993 and it made up of around 9 gorilla individuals which consist of I dominant silverback, one adult female and two juveniles who are being led by the dominant named Alpha Ruhondeza and 1 black back. There is also the Habinyanja gorilla family, which was given the local name Nyanja which means “Water” and this, is where the first gorilla group was first spotted and the habituation process began in 1997 and it ended in 1999. Tourists who opt to trek this gorilla group always spend about 5 hours. More the Habinyanja gorilla family has around 17 members in their group, they are made of one silver back, and a dominant silverback named Makara is leading them.
