Detailed itinerary for the safari
Day 1: Kigali city tour and transfer to volcanoes national park
On the first day of the safari you will be picked and meet your safari drive either at the airport, your drive will brief you about the safari and then drive to Kigali city for a full day city tour. On the city tour you will visit many historical sites such as Gisozi genocide war memorial site, in this site you will learn and more about the 1994 Rwandan genocide. You will also visit the king’s palace and the Kimironko market where you will be able to buy handmade craft pieces and many local fabrics, you will have lunch at any hotel in Kigali and then embark on your journey to volcanoes national park. From kigali city to volcanoes national park it is a drive of 2-3 hours to the park and in the park you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Hiking to mount karisimbi
On the second day of the safari you will wake up early in the morning for morning breakfast and then drive to Kinigi where park headquarters are situated for briefing before the start of hiking expedition, at the headquarters you can also hire backpackers. From the headquarters you will start your hiking to the summit of karisimbi volcano which takes approximately 6 hours using karisimbi head trail, on this day you hike half to the mountain and you go with your packed lunch. You are to make a stopover at the altitude level of 3,700 meters at the campsite where dinner is prepared and spend the night.
Day 3: descend mount karisimbi volcano
On the third day of the safari you wake up early for breakfast and then continue hiking the remaining distance to the top of the summit, at the top pf the summit you are to enjoy the scenic scenery of the spectacular Virunga ranges and the surrounding. After spending time mesmerizing at the beautiful scenery you descend back to the slopes of Karisimbi volcano, at the footstep of the volcano you will drive to the lodge, rest, have dinner and spend over night.

Day 4: mountain gorilla trekking experience and transfer back to Kigali
On the fourth day of the safari, you will wake up early for morning breakfast and then drive to the park’s headquarters for briefing about the mountain gorilla trekking experience. After the briefing you will be grouped into groups of 8 people and then start tracking, looking for mountain gorillas takes a bit of time depending on where the gorillas spent the night. After looking the gorillas you are allowed to spend one hour with them which is an amazing experience of taking pictures as long as your flash is off. The experience takes approximately 3-4 hours, after the experience you will drive back to your lodge, have late lunch, checkout of your lodge and drive back to Kigali. In Kigali town you will be droped off at your hotel or the airport marking the end of your safari.
