Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National park
- Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes: On the 1st day of the safari you will be picked from Kigali international Airport upon arrival by a safari driver, you will have a short Kigali city tour visiting sites like Gisozi Genocide Memorial site, Kimironko market then set off for Volcanoes national park. When you arrive in the park you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking experience
- Mountain gorilla trekking experience: On the 2nd day of the safari you will wake up early in the morning and drive to the park’s headquarters for briefing about mountain gorilla trekking , while at the headquarters you will also be grouped into 8 and assigned a gorilla family to trek then hike into the forests of Virunga searching for mountain gorillas. Mountain gorilla trekking takes approximately 2-8 hours and depends on the terrain and where the gorillas spent the night, when you find the mountain gorillas you are given only one hour to stay in the presence of the mountain gorillas and in one hour you can take beautiful pictures of the gorillas, watch them play on the tree branches and as they pick fruits. After an hour you will head back to the park’s headquarters or go for an optional visit to the twin lakes, in the evening you will drive back to your lodge have dinner and stay overnight.
Day 3: Dian Fossey hiking and Iby’Iwacu cultural visit
- Dian Fossey hiking and Iby’Iwacu cultural visit: On the 3rd day of the safari you will have morning breakfast and then drive to the park for Dian Fossey hiking, this experience takes you to a grave of Dian Fossey an American lady who dedicated her whole life to conservation of mountain gorillas until she was killed by unidentified people who are said to be poachers. From the hiking you will drive back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will visit the Iby’Iwacu village, in Iby’Iwacu village you will various cultural activities such as hunting, weaving baskets, traditional dressing code, local food, encounter local houses built using local materials and be entertained by local dances and songs. In the evening you will have dinner and stay overnight.
Day4: Golden monkey tracking experience and transfer back to Kigali
- Golden monkey tracking experience and transfer back to Kigali: on the 5th and last day of the 4 days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking and Dian Fossey safari you will have early morning breakfast at your lodge, meet your safari driver and head to park’s headquarters for a short briefing about rules to follow while golden monkey tracking. At the headquarters you will be grouped and trek in to the forests of Volcanoes national park in search for golden monkeys, golden monkey tracking takes approximately 5 hours depending on the movement of golden monkeys on that day. When you find the golden monkeys you will be amazed with sight of these monkeys playing on bamboo trees and picking shoots for eating, you will then hike back to the lodge for lunch then check out and head back to Kigali. In Kigali you will be dropped off at your hotel or at Kigali international airport for your departure flight.
