Entrance Fees For Ngorongoro Conservation Area are those charges that travelers passing through or accessing the park should pay before they enter the crater area. The Ngorongoro conservation area is among the protected areas in the northern parts of Tanzania. This protected area is known for being a deep volcanic caldera with breathtaking scenery and high chances of seeing a variety of wildlife species as you descend to the crater area.
Entrance fees refer to payments made by tourists or visitors at the entrance of the national park or area of conservation for tourism activities conducted within the park. This fee is sometimes referred to as park fees.
East Africans are charged differently from the nonresidents who are charged in dollars while the East Africans are charged in Tanzania shillings. The charges for entry into the Ngorongoro area also vary according to the age of the person visiting.
Ngorongoro conservation area can be accessed by both flights and by road with the nearest town being Karatu. This attraction site is located on the eastern arm of the great rift valley and lies in the western direction from Arusha town.
To cross into the Ngorongoro conservation area, a fee of $71 is paid as entrance fees and during trips when someone is passing through this area and not engaging in any activity at the crater area for wildlife viewing, a transit fee is paid.
The transit fee is valid for 24 hours for a single entry and in instances after the 24-hour elapse, another payment for transit fee is required by the management of the Ngorongoro conservation area. Exceptions include people who fly into Serengeti and are not engaging in any activity in the Ngorongoro area.
Another payment made in the Ngorongoro conservation area is the concession fee which is defined as fees paid by lodges, hotels and permanent camps found within a national park. tourists who sleep within the park at any of its accommodation facilities.
Crater fees are also paid by tourists visiting the Ngorongoro crater and it is independent of the park entrance fees. This fee is paid by visitors who are descending into the crater for different activities such as wildlife viewing and it costs a fee of $ 295.
Prepaid cards are also available for making payments for entrance fees for Ngorongoro conservation area and these cards can be got from CRDB bank and payments for these cards can be made in Us dollars or in Tanzania shillings. These cards are presented at the gate of Ngorongoro before entry.
CRDB bank cards can be got from different branches in Arusha, Iringa, Moshi, and Musoma. The system of using prepaid cards was introduced by the Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA). Tourists with master cards or visa cards can also use them for making payments for entrance to the Ngorongoro conservation area.
Ngorongoro conservation area is managed by Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority. Rules and regulations put in place for efficient management of the conservation area include;
- Avoiding going off the authorized roads or trucks
- The speed limit of 25km/h in Ngorongoro conservation area
- All visitors to the Ngorongoro crater must be accompanied by a licensed guide.
- Campfires must not damage vegetation and must not be allowed to spread. It must be extinguished after use.
- Avoid littering
- No dogs are allowed in the crater
- Avoid making noise when viewing animals in close proximity.
- Do not remove anything of biological interest in the park or crater
- Avoid feeding the animals
- Picnics and camping are allowed in the designated places
- All animals have a right of way.
- Avoid driving to close to the animals
NOTE: Penalties are also given to people who are over speeding in the Ngorongoro conservation area.
The best times for visits to the Ngorongoro conservation area include the months of June to September and December to February. However, this crater can be visited at any time of the year for the experience of viewing a variety of wildlife species such as lions, cheetahs, elephants, buffalos, wildebeest, Thompson and grants gazelles, zebras and many others as well as many bird species.
The entrance fees for Ngorongoro conservation area is used to promote conservation of the wildlife and to benefit the tourism sector of Tanzania by improving tourist facilities and infrastructure such as roads, bridges, airstrips as well as catering for the increasing number of tourists and to diversify the tourist activities in the national park.
