Nzambani Rock Kenya; Nzambani Rock is a famous outstanding touristic site, situated about 8 kilometers away from Kitui town along the Kitui –Mutitu road at Nzambini market Kenya. However, Nzambani Rock is locally known as Ivia ya Nzambani a stone outcrop standing estimating over 600 feet ‘’183 meters’’ above the ground. Above all, its top offers a cool breeze and views of Kitui Country and beyond.
In general, Nzambani Rock is the main key tourist attraction in Kitui county, where visitors flock in daily to adventure the beauty of this incredible rock. Around the rock have been build a metallic staircase for visitors to climb to the top and this staircase is fenced to prevent life danger for the sake of children and other people who are afraid of heights.
Ideally, the rock gives a great view of an over –looked landscape by the locals and the rocks are particularly famous for the myths surrounding it. The place also attracts visitors who come to experience life adventure and quench their curiosity about the myths, Kenya Safaris.
There is also a traditional believe said about this rocks that anyone who goes round the rock seven times can change into a member of the opposite sex. But the tale has been passed from one generation to another and it is clear that no one has ever tried to go round the rock seven times.
More so, Nzambani rock is undoubtedly one of the country’s largest stone outcrops as the story narrated.
In the past years, there was nothing in the area but a forest where people came to graze and look for firewood but on day, three girls came looking for firewood and one of the three girls found around the area stone which she attempted to pick and hid in her chest so she never stopped taking it to her grandparent to use for pounding tobacco,’’ Mze Kimanzi Mutunga says’’
That girls were dressed in animal skin as if there were no clothes. Then after some time, the girl realized it was growing big and heavy and she had to stop collecting firewood. But when the rest of girls came, they found that their friend had turned into a rock besides the head. Something which scared them to thrill while on Kenya Safaris Tours.
The girl was named Nzambaa. She had to tell her friends what had happed and asked they help her but they were not able to help her as was already dark and since was wilderness they feared to be hurt by wild animals.
Mzee Mutunga continue to say that the girl went to Nzambaa’s home and had to narrate her parent who went together with them and also tried to save the daughter, but he could not help the daughter.
The elders met and sacrifices were done of a black sheep and still it didn’t recover her.
Then the next day, returning back and found when she had completely turned to rock something which made them to wonder. That is how Nzambani came to existence. The place is believed as a sacrificial place most especially when it was not raining.
Question Mark; Has anyone ever changed their gender after going round seven times? Here, Mzee Mutunga adds on that; One day, a boy said he wanted to be a woman as he narrates that women were treated better than men. When he tried to reach out his views to the elders, he was told to go round the rock seven times very early in the morning. ‘’Guest want by evening he had turned into a woman’’.
Visitors to hike up the rock it only takes about 45minutes. Then from the top of the rock one has about 360-degree view of Kitui county.
Locals who stay around the stone claim that the stone is growing due to its shining allure and the undeniable fact, despite the trees around continue to grow throughout the years, they never surpass the rock’s height.
Note; The rock is visible from a distance of 60 miles away.
Nzambani Rock Entry fees; Adult foreigners are charged Ksh 1000 while children pay Kshs 500. Then local adult tourists are charged Ksh 200 while children pay Ksh100 to climb to the top of the rock.

How Nzambani rock was formed?
The Nzambani rock was formed through elders met and sacrificed a black sheep which also failed to recover her. The next day, when they had returned back found she had completely turned to rock. All this tells how Nzambani came to existence.
