Uganda tourist sites : There are different tourist sites which can be visited around Uganda and they include historical and cultural sites, religious tourist sites, natural features and also different monuments.
- Historical and cultural tourist sites
Historical and cultural sites in Uganda portray the cultural identity and the roots as well as the history of the people of Uganda. Visiting these different sites gives the tourists insight of the cultures in the country and they can also experience their cultural practices and way of life.
- Kasubi tombs
The Kasubi Tombs are found in Kampala and this site is a UNESCO world heritage site and is of great significance to the Baganda people.
Four of the kings of Buganda are buried at the Kasubi tombs which act as a historical and cultural site in Buganda.
- Nagalabi Coronation Site
The Nagalabi coronation site is another tourist site in Uganda which is of great significance to the people of Buganda.
The coronation site is located on Buddo hill and is the place where the kings of Buganda are crowned and it is located on Kampala-Masaka road.
- Mparo Tombs
The Mparo tombs are among the historical sites of Bunyoro and are the burial ground for the kings (Abakama) of Bunyoro.
- Nkokonjeru Tombs
Another historical site which can be visited is the Nkokonjeru tombs which is the place where two of the kings of Ankole are buried.
The Nkokonjeru tombs are located in Mbarara and can be visited during Uganda tours in the western part of Uganda.
- Karambi tombs
These tombs are the burial ground for the kings of Tooro kingdom and the Karambi tombs are located in the southern part of Fort Portal town.
- Mugaba Palace
The Mugaba palace is the kingdom of the people of Ankole and it is located in Kamukuzi in Mbarara district.
- Bulange
Bulange is the parliament or Lukiiko of the Buganda kingdom and it is located adjacent to the palace of the Kabaka of Buganda which is on Namirembe hill.
- Kabarole Palace
The Kabarole palace is the palace of Tooro kingdom and is located in western Uganda in Fort Portal town.
This palace is also the home to the current king of Tooro who is King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV. The Kabarole palace is also referred to as the Fort portal palace.
- The Hoima Palace
The Hoima palace is the home of the king of Bunyoro and it is located in Hoima town. Visits to this palace are very informative about the Banyoro people and their culture and traditions and also their history.
- Religious tourist sites
Uganda is a country which has a diversity of religions and visits to the different religious tourist sites in the country offers tourists an opportunity to experience the different religions and learn more about religious practices in the country which include Christianity, Islam among others widely practiced in different areas in the country.
- Uganda martyrs shrine Namugongo
The Uganda martyrs shrine is among the religious sites to visit during tours in Uganda and is located in Namugongo.
The martyrs shrine was built in remembrance of the 22 Catholic and 23 Anglican Ugandan martyrs who were killed for by King Mwanga II in 1886 because of their faith. Every 3rd June, many pilgrims from different parts of the world gather at the Namugongo shrine to celebrate the martyrs.
- Uganda national mosque
Another religious site to visit in Uganda is the Uganda national mosque which is the largest mosque in East Africa.
The Uganda national mosque is located in Old Kampala and is also referred to as the Gadhafi mosque.
- Bahai temple
The Bahai temple is another place of worship which can be visited in Uganda and it is located on Kikaya hill in the outskirts of Kampala.
- Namirembe cathedral
The Namirembe cathedral is also known as St. Paul’s cathedral and is another religious site to visit in Uganda and is located on Namirembe hill.
- Rubaga cathedral
The Rubaga Cathedral is also known as St. Mary’s cathedral and is considered to be one of the oldest Roman Catholic diocese in Uganda.
- Kibuli mosque
The Kibuli Mosque is another religious site in Uganda and is a place of worship of the Islamic people. It is also among the oldest mosques in the country.
- Munyonyo martyrs shrine
The Munyonyo martyrs shrine is another place of worship for Roman Catholics in Uganda and is another religious site which is dedicated to Uganda martyrs.
- Natural attractions
There are different natural attractions which can be visited around Uganda which is also referred to as the “Pearl of Africa,” because of its scenic beauty, diverse landscapes and stunning natural attractions. Some of the natural attractions to visit around the country include;
- National parks
There are different national parks which can be visited in Uganda and they include Murchison falls national park, Queen Elizabeth national park, Lake Mburo national park, Kibale forest national park, Bwindi national park, Semuliki national park, Mgahinga national park, Rwenzori mountains national park, Kidepo valley national park and Mount Elgon national park.
Wildlife safari parks include Murchison falls national park, Queen Elizabeth national park, Lake Mburo national park, Kidepo valley national park. Primates in Uganda can be seen in Kibale national park which is home to chimpanzees and mountain gorillas can be seen in Bwindi national park and Mgahinga national park.
- Rivers
Uganda has different rivers including the River Nile which is the longest river in the world. Other rivers found in the park include River Katonga, River Achwa, River Kafu among others.
- Forests
The forests found in Uganda include Mabira forest, Bwindi forest, Kibale forest, Bugoma forest, Budongo forest, Maramagambo forest among others. These forests include tropical rainforests and also plantation forests.
- Lakes
Some of the lakes found in Uganda include Lake Victoria, Lake Albert, Lake Kyoga, Lake Edward, Lake George, Lake Bunyonyi, Lake Mutanda among others. There are also different crater lakes and manmade lakes found around the country.
- Mountains
Mountains in Uganda include Mount Rwenzori, Mount Elgon, Mount Gahinga, Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Moroto, Mount Muhabura among others.
