The 2 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking safari takes you to one of the oldest rainforests in Africa, rich in biodiversity and beautiful nature. The park is home to over 13 species of primate especially chimpanzees and others like l’hoest monkey endemic to the Albertine Rift. The trip starts and begins in Kigali.
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Depending on your point of location in Kigali city, you will be picked up by your guide at your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park watching a number of rewarding attractions like the rolling hills of Rwanda, the homesteads and so on. You will have a stopover in Butare, where you will visit the National Museum of Rwanda and the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch en route. After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk-a swing bridge 50 meters’ in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to view the attractive rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife roaming about below you there after link to your accommodation to spend the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Visitor Centre –budget, Nyumgwe Hill Top –Mid-range
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will go to the Nyungwe meeting Centre, where you will make your way to either Cyamudongo Forest or Nyungwe Forest where you will access the habituated chimpanzee troops. The chimpanzee trekking experience takes about 3 hours which will give you the opportunity to encounter a number of rewarding features of the chimpanzees in the wild like; they will be seen chattering and laughing, and you will get to observe the females’ red bottoms during ovulation which is a sign that they are ready to mate with the males many others interesting features. After the rewarding experience, you will board your safari vehicle and drive out of the park to be dropped off at a location of your choice in Kigali City or Kigali International Airport. This makes the end of your 2 days of Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking safari.
