Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer Volcanoes National Park

Transfer to Volcanoes national park: On day 1 of 7 days Rwanda and Congo safari, you will be met by our company representative who is your safari driver for this one week safari and start your adventure with a drive from your lodge or from Kigali international airport to Volcanoes national park where you will spend your 1st night awaiting a fascinating adventure the next day.

Day 2: Rwanda gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

Rwanda gorilla trekking: On day 2 of 7 days Rwanda and Congo safari, arise as early as possible for breakfast and meet your safari driver for a transfer to for briefing about gorilla trekking the dos and don’ts and many other important information you require during gorilla trekking adventure in the wilderness of Volcanoes national park. After briefing, you will head into the forest to search for habituated gorilla family alongside armed rangers. The trek lasts between 2-7 hours with an hour of viewing gorillas closely taking photographs and later on exit the forest then return to the lodge for a relaxed evening or else you may enjoy a visit the twin lakes of Burela and Ruhondo or have a cultural tour to Ibyiwacu cultural village.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park

Transfer from Volcanoes national park to Nyungwe forest national park: After breakfast on day 3 of 7 days Rwanda and Congo safari, check out of the lodge and meet your safari driver for a transfer to Nyungwe forest national park. The driving distance is kind of long but very rewarding as you grab fascinating views of several attractions ranging from the rolling hills to local community members to fauna and flora among others. You will enjoy an enroute lunch and stopovers along the way at the genocide memorial sites, Nyanza kings palace and many more. Upon arrival at the park, proceed to check in your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Chimpanzees trekking and canopy walk in Nyungwe forest 

Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk: On day 4 of 7 days Rwanda and Congo safari, meet your safari driver and be transferred to the park headquarters for briefing after which you will penetrate the forest to trek chimpanzees in their natural habitat. This adventure takes about 2-5 hours after which you will return to the lodge for lunch and later on have an evening canopy walk in the forest. Taking on a canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park is such an adventurous and rewarding activity that will leave you with everlasting memories.

Day 5: Transfer to Lake Kivu

Transfer to Lake Kivu: On day 5 of 7 days Rwanda and Congo safari, have your relaxed breakfast at the lodge then check out to start the journey from Nyungwe forest national park to Lake Kivu. Along the way, you will enjoy an enroute lunch and upon arrival at Lake Kivu, check in your lodge and head out for an evening adventure on this stunning fresh water lake. You may enjoy an evening boat cruise overlooking Mount Nyiragongo and many other stunning attraction near the lake.

Day 6: Nyiragongo Hike (ascend)

Hike Mount Nyiragongo Hike (Ascend): On day 6 of 7 days Rwanda and Congo safari, enjoy an early breakfast then pack enough meal for lunch as you meet your driver for a transfer to Virunga national park via Grand Barrier where you will obtain Congo Visa and meet the convoy fir drive to Kibati ranger post for briefing. After briefing, hire a porter and sleeping equipment then set off on a 5-6 hour’s hike to summit the top of Nyiragongo where you will then spend an overnight viewing the boing Lava Lake. On a lucky night if it drizzles, you will be sure to spot the lava lake as it glows even brighter. Take as many photographs as possible since you have a full night all by yourself on the Lake.

Day 7: Descend Nyiragongo and return to Kigali for departures

Descend Nyiragongo back to Kibati and return to Kigali for departures: On day 7 of 7 days safari which is yet the last day of this one week safari, enjoy your breakfast and meet other hikers to start the journey back to Kibati where you started the hike from.  Descending is more fascinating and very easy as compared to ascending. Arriving at Kibati, you will join the convoy for a transfer to Goma where you will then cross over back to Rwanda to meet your safari driver for a drive to Kigali for a lunch, city tour and departures.
