Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park

Transfer to Nyungwe forest national park: On day 1 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari tour, our company representative in Kigali Rwanda will meet you for an early morning pick up from your hotel and start the journey to Nyungwe forest national park for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Canopy walk in Nungwe forest national park

Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk: On day 2 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari tour, have an early breakfast at your lodge then pack some snacks, drinking water and wear your best and suitable attire as you meet your driver for a transfer to the forest for briefing as early as 5:00am. After briefing, you will be led into the forest by the armed rangers as you trek the gentle giants in their natural habitats. Upon finding chimpanzees, you will spend only one hour in their presence interacting closely then exit the forest back to the lodge for lunch.

Later in the evening, be transferred to Uwinka for briefing about canopy walk after which you will set off on a 150M long canopy while viewing lots of attractions including fauna and flora.

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu for afternoon boat cruise

Drive to Lake Kivu for afternoon boat ride: On day 3 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari tour, enjoy a relaxed breakfast at your lodge then check out and be driven to Lake Kivu situated in Gisenyi. You will arrive in time for lunch. After lunch, enjoy an afternoon boat cruise viewing the stunning attractions along the lake shores as well as a view of Mount Nyiragongo the most active volcano in Virunga massif situated in Virunga national park in Democratic Republic of Congo.

Day 4: Half day Lake Kivu excursion and transfer to Volcanoes national park

Day 5: Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

Rwanda gorilla trekking:  On day 5 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari tour, arise from comfort of your bed for an early morning breakfast after which you will be led to the briefing grounds to join other trekkers for a pre gorilla trekking briefing after which you will penetrate the forest to search for the gorillas that have been habituated and ready for trekking in their natural habitats. During gorilla trekking, look out for other forest dwellers like mammals, other primates, birds and many more that make this trek more adventurous. Upon finding the gorilla, you have only one hour in their presence taking photographs and watching them closely. Exit the forest and return to your lodge for a meal. You will then spend your evening on a cultural tour in Ibyiwacu cultural village or Gorilla guardian village.

Day 6: Golden Monkey tracking and Visit the twin lakes of Burela and Ruhondo

Golden Monkey tracking and visit twin lakes: On day 6 of 7 days Rwanda primate safari tour, have breakfast in time and be driven for briefing once again but this time round for golden monkeys one of the most beautiful though endangered primates. You will then be led into the forest by rangers to track these cheerful primates in their natural habitats. This takes about 2-4 hours and upon finding them, you will have only one hour with them. Exit the forest back to your lodge for lunch and spend your evening on a guided walk to visit the twin Lakes of Burela and Ruhondo.
