Located in Western Uganda, the park is one of the delightful sanctuaries to visit on your Uganda safari. The park is endowed with the beautiful ancient montane rainforest which is the habitat for all these primates and other animals together with over 400 bird species.

You can access Kibale National park by road, the park is about 4 to 6 from Uganda’s capital Kampala and if you wish to fly to the park, you will have a 45 min flight from Entebbe to Kasese and then a one hour drive from Kasese to Kibale National Park.

The primates that live in this park are chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, red colobus monkeys, red tailed monkey, and many more and the birds that live in this park are great blue turaco, the black and white cascade hornbill among others.

Though this park has been closed most of the year 2020, because of the COVID pandemic, like other National parks in Uganda it’s now reopened and admitting visitors on a daily basis.

So in this article we want to highlight the activities you will be enjoying in Kibale National Park in this year 2021.

Chimpanzee trekking

This is the most popular activity in this park and almost all visitors to the park take a trek through the forest to find the famous chimpanzees. Chimpanzee trekking experiences take between 4 to 6 hours and of those hours you only spend one hour with the chimpanzees.

Chimpanzee trekking is done all through the year  on any day and chimpanzee trekking permits cost 200 USD per a permit per a trek.

Chimpanzee Habitation

On top of Chimpanzee trekking, you can also engage in chimpanzee habituation which is a process of helping the chimpanzees get used to the people presence.  This process normally takes longer than the chimpanzee trekking experience and costs 250 USD per habituation permit per a person.

Unlike chimpanzee trekking, chimpanzee habituation is not done daily so you have to first inquire when the process will take place and you have to book you habituation permit way in advance because of the limited slots.

Birding

The Kibale rainforest is home to over 200 bird species that you can see on a birding spree through the forest. This birding spree is more relaxing and less strenuous than the trekking experience and on this birding experience you also get time to take in the breeze of the forest and appreciate the numerous tree species in the forest.

Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary Tour

Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary is a swamp south of Kibale National park and a habitat for over 300 bird species that are always roaming back and forth between the swamp and the kibale forest. Tour through this swamp is an amazing experience that offers you a front row seat to bird watching as you enjoy beautiful sceneries of the swamp and the surrounding area.

Nature walks

You can also take nature walks through the park to just experience the beauty of the park and the different features in the park. The park also offers guided late evening nature walks into the forest to search for bush babies and golden cats.

Crater lake tour

There are several crater lakes that are found in the Kibale National park area that visitors can visit to just see and appreciate the different volcanic activities that have taken place in the previous years in the surrounding areas.

These and many more other activities are some of the things you should look out for on your visit to Kibale National Park in this year 2021.
