Nyungwe forest National Park fees: Nyungwe forest national park is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Rwanda situated in the southwestern region of Rwanda along the border of Rwanda and Burundi, Nyungwe forest national park offers many thrilling safari experience such as chimpanzee trekking, canopy walk, Nyungwe forest bird walk, forest hiking and colobus monkey trekking.

Each and every activity in Nyungwe forest national park is charged a fee, park fees in Nyungwe forest national park are drafted by Rwanda Development Board which is in charge of governing the park. Nyungwe Forest National Park Fees are as follows .

IMPORTANT POINTS TO KNOW AS YOU ARE PAYING PARK FEES AT NYUNGWE FOREST NATIONAL PARK 

  • Tourist status/categories 

Tourist status is based on while paying for park fees and you get to find out that the prices vary, the categories /status include  

Rwandese (RC) – the category/status of Rwandese include Rwanda citizens 

Foreign Non-Residents (FNR) – Foreign Non Residents are international visitors/tourists from various countries apart from Rwanda and East Africa Community countries.

East African Citizens (EAC) – are nationals of East African Community countries and East African Community Foreign Residents. Nationals of East African Communities are visitors/tourists from countries that are members to East Africa Community that is Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Burundi). East African Community Foreign Residents are visitors/tourist from East African Community countries with valid immigration documents, passports and working permits.

Foreign residents are required to have 4 months of consecutive minimum residence or work permit status to qualify as Rwandan/East Africa Foreign residence status 

Foreign Residents (FR) – Foreign residents are foreigners living in Rwanda and they are in possession of proper and valid documents from immigration and working permits. Students –students are visitors/tourists from Rwanda and East African Community (EAC) countries, students need to present citizenship, residence and student cards as proof. 

Children – children are tourists/visitors below the age of 15 years. 

Diplomats with a residence Visa for Rwanda is allowed to use Foreign resident prices, the diplomat can use the same rates for their spouses and legally accepted children even if they do not have Rwandese resident Visas.

Tourists with a Rwandese parent or Rwandan spouse are considered as Rwandan citizen provided they are confirmed by Immigration and Emigration Director General confirms it. 

  • Age limits and group sizes for tourism experience

Age limit 

Tourists/visitors must be a minimum age of 15 years of age to participate in chimpanzee tracking, Congo Nile Divide Nile, and birding experience.

Tourists must be a minimum of 12 years of age to participate in other primate trekking 

Children of 7 years of age and younger are to participate in guided nature walks and a proof of birth certificate or passport is need. 

Groups 

For other primate trekking in Nyungwe forest national park, a group with maximum of 10 people is permitted for the trek.

For chimpanzee trekking a maximum of 8 people in each group are permitted per group per day

  • Means of payment 

Payment for tourist experience permits can be made using 

  • credit cards such as Visa, Master Card, China Union Pay and other major credit card
  • payments by cash is accepted at Nyungwe forest national park

Verification process

The Verification process at Nyungwe forest national park is done is done prior to the park experience, each and every tourist is expected to check-in at the park office for permit verification which is done by the park staff before tourists depart to the park for the experience.

The verification process requires the tourists/visitor to present his or her original copy of the experience permit which contains a booking reference number which is obtained from IREMBO, RDB sales and Reservation Office or from your tour and travel agent. 

Check-in 

Tourists must check- in at Nyungwe forest national park‘s Visitor/Information center at exactly 0700 hours for chimpanzee tracking and other activities in the park.
