Tourist attractions in eastern Uganda : There are a number of attractions to visit during tours around the eastern part of Uganda and they include wildlife viewing destinations, forests, waterfalls, mountains, historical sites among others.

Wildlife viewing destinations

In the eastern part of Uganda some of the national parks and wildlife reserves to visit for an encounter with various wildlife species include the following;

  • Kidepo valley national park

Kidepo valley national park is a popular safari destination located in the north eastern part of Uganda and it is home to a variety of wildlife species.

Tourists can enjoy exploring the remote wilderness of Kidepo national park in search of different wildlife species. Some of the wildlife which can be spotted around the destination include cheetahs, lions, leopards, elephants, buffalos, zebras, impalas, waterbucks, giraffes, hyenas, warthogs, kudu, topi among others.

The Pian Upe wildlife reserve is another wildlife viewing destination found in the eastern part of Uganda which is home to various wildlife species.

Waterfalls in eastern Uganda

  • Source of the Nile

The source of the Nile which is the point where the River Nile stats flowing is another attraction found in the eastern part of Uganda and it is located in Jinja.

Tourists can enjoy boat rides on the source of the Nile and also visit the local craft shops, the Mahatma Gandhi monument and interact with locals around the destination.

  • Sezibwa falls

Tourists visiting the eastern part of Uganda can also go to the Sezibwa falls which are located in Mukono district.

At the Sezibwa falls, tourists can enjoy guided forest walks, bird watching, and photography and hiking, many locals also visit the destination to perform cultural rites and sacrifices to the gods for child bearing, healing, blessings, wealth among other things.

  • Sisiyi falls

The Sisiyi falls can also be visited during tours in eastern Uganda and they are located in Bulambuli district.

  • Mabira forest

The Mabira forest is located along the Kampala-Jinja highway and is another popular destination found in the eastern part of Uganda.

  • Nyero rock paintings

Nyero rock paintings are also located in eastern Uganda and the destination is one of the historical sites in the region.
